I am a Scorpion...

Once upon a time there were 9 planets. After Pluto’s demotion we are now left with 8. These 8, along with the demoted Pluto, affect around 7 billion population of the world. And I am only talking about the human population. If we leave the human demographic aside, we see a much higher number of animals & plant population. Surely the planets must be affecting them! <Marketing Innovation Labs should start selling animal astrology. Shouldn't we have a Scorpion Labrador, Virgo parrot and a Pisces cat?>

Okay, let’s not digress away. So, we have Mercury Venus Earth affecting some humans and thereby classifying them in to some star signs. So we have 23 categories of people<Yes, my mathematics is correct. There are 12 star signs and 11 cusps> on the planet. Now if we can safely rely on probability, then I can say that each of these groups must be having saints and sinners. Each of the above 23 groups must be having social workers and criminals. There must be artists, politicians, scholars and dreamers in all. Some people from each group must have committed suicide. Some must have won the Nobel Prize. Leaders, followers, heroes and cowards, we will be having all of them in the groups. Variety is assured! <I don’t have access to any National or International Demographic data, but I am sure if someone does, the above guess can be corroborated.>

Then what binds them together? Clearly if we have so much diversity in any one group, there can’t be any common characteristic. Yet, Linda Goodman’s book on sun signs and star signs sells like hotcakes. The daily astrological forecast in any newspaper is one of the top read articles.

I was born on the 6 of November. The orientation of the planets was such that Neptune was the planet which was affecting me the most followed by Pluto. Now they say that scorpions are mysterious. This fact can only be proven in one way. Pluto was a mystery to us since a very long time. That it’s not a planet at all was revealed only recently!! They say scorpions believe in Revenge. Other star sign people don’t? Scorpions are ambitious. That is person dependent. What has November got to do with that anyway?

People are getting classified in available groups. Characteristics can always be justified. I find the entire star sign concept amusing. I don’t believe in it, but I do read a lot about it. Just for sheer entertainment. My brother believes in it a lot. He is a Libra. So i like to read the section for Librans in the newspaper and tell him his daily forecast. I find it even more amusing that he keeps on telling me, Sis you are a Scorpion, Libras and scorpions are not the best of compatible signs :D. The idea of belonging to one of the 23 types just doesn't seem right to me.

I was wondering, why are they called star signs? Aren't the planets affecting us?? Or are the remaining 8 planets in line for promotion to be stars????

  1. Classification is a way of life... everything from ages, to elements to stars to gender ....... has been classified....... we humans can not just live without classifying everything into classes.... And hence the concept of star signs and whatever...... Cast, creed and religion weren't enough so we were classified into yet another system based on the most obvious innate characteristics observed . As far as star signs are concerned ...... each of them cover almost every aspect of human nature .... and as much as they might be true, every thing depends on a lot of factors...... scorpions don't seek revenge until provoked........ but maybe then, once provoked they are more prone to revenge than any other ...... As far as I know, the scorpions have been known for their sexual drive, no wonder revenge follows next :)

    1. Classification is good. But for 7 billion, we need more categories. Also what I want to state is, these signs try to classify with personality traits, which don't fit all. Gender is fixed, and religion is followed, so we cant compare, right?

  2. people need something to believe in... they see it... they find it logical (what with all the explanation with the you-were-born-on-this-day-and-so-this-planet-rules-you and astronomy being an established science) they buy this theory and then start believing it... I have seen people reading their forecasts and then actually following them ... hence ensuring it comes true ! its just a belief system the way we believe in the Vedas and the Ramayana / Mahabharata to be true

    1. I totally agree about the part 'I have seen people reading their forecasts and then actually following them ... hence ensuring it comes true'

This is the main reason it works! :)

  3. As we all know the theory of "butter-fly-effect" everything in the world is related to each other in someway or the other. Again we can not simply ignore the established facts of the old astrology just because we have traveled 2000 even years from that era. Astrology is based on Scientific observation.. there is something in it. By the way nice to see your inclination towards these things :P

  5. May be due to the fact that initial months of a child is spent in extensive cold or severe heat or some other conditions....people tend to have similar characteristics of same sun sign...not sure about forecasts because for that one needs to have extensive astrology knowledge...but i believe in the classification of people according to their birth date and so is true about palmistry. About the forecast coming in newspapers, they are repeated after regular interval of time...so don look upon them ;)
